A pitcher of sangria is great for a party, but what if you need only a glass or two? Small batch sangria is the answer. I like to make a small batch when I have a bottle of wine that’s been open for a few days and needs to be used up. Today I made use of an open bottle of Pinot Grigio to make white wine sangria. It’s a refreshing drink, perfect for sipping this spring and into the summer months. For a fun garnish, fill your glass with whatever fruit is in season. Fresh strawberries and juicy peaches are especially delicious.
Small Batch White Wine Sangria Recipe
1 cup chilled dry white wine (I used Pinot Grigio)
1 ounce orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Grand Mariner
1/2 ounce fresh mandarin orange juice or orange juice
1/2 ounce fresh Meyer lemon juice
1/2 to 1 ounce simple syrup
Ice Cubes
Fresh sliced fruit such as mandarin orange, Meyer lemon, peaches, strawberries and apples
In a mixing glass combine wine, orange liqueur, orange juice, Meyer lemon juice and 1/2 ounce simple syrup; stir to mix. Taste for sweetness; add more simple syrup, if needed. To serve, add to 2 glasses filled with ice. Garnish as desired with fresh fruit.
Makes 2 drinks
Tip: If you don’t have Meyer lemon juice you can substitute standard lemon juice. Since standard lemon juice is more sour than Meyer lemon, use only 1/4 ounce standard lemon juice in the sangria.
What is simple syrup? Simple syrup is 1 part granulated sugar dissolved in 1 part water.
