Chocolate Stout Beer Shakes

Here’s a fun beer drink recipe- cold stout beer and premium chocolate ice cream blended into a rich and creamy shake! Beer and ice cream may sound like an odd couple, but they get along nicely in these chocolate stout shakes. The bitterness of the beer pairs well with the chocolate in the ice cream.

Chocolate Stout Beer Shake Recipe
3/4 to 1 cup cold stout beer such as Guinness draught or your favorite local brew
1 pint (2 cups) premium chocolate ice cream such as Ben and Jerry’s

Add cold beer to blender container. (Use 3/4 cup for a thicker shake or 1 cup for a thinner shake.) Scoop ice cream into blender container. Blend until smooth, stopping blender and scraping down sides as needed. Pour into glasses.

Makes 2 shakes (about 3 cups total)

Tip: Be sure to use a premium, higher fat ice cream. Using a lower fat ice cream will result in a thin shake with unbalanced flavor.

Irish Coffee

Irish Coffee is a warm and comforting hot drink. Perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day brunch or anytime you’re craving a sweet and creamy coffee drink.

The best thing about Irish Coffee is the cap of cream topping the drink. There’s no better way to sip coffee than through a cloud of cream.

Irish Coffee Recipe
2 teaspoons sugar such as demerara sugar
1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey such as Jameson
6 to 8 ounces hot brewed coffee
3 tablespoons heavy (whipping) cream
Cocoa powder, if desired

Before making the drink, warm a mug by filling with hot water. Discard hot water and add sugar, Irish whiskey and coffee to mug. Stir to dissolve sugar.

Beat cream with a whisk until thickened but still pourable. (You want thickened cream, not stiff whipped cream.) Layer the cream on top of the coffee drink by slowly pouring the thickened cream over the back of a spoon. Sprinkle with cocoa powder.

Makes 1 drink

Tip: Vary the amount of coffee and cream to suit your taste. Use less coffee for a stronger drink. Increase the cream to 4 tablespoons for a creamier drink.

Kentucky Mule Bourbon Drink

Have you tried a Kentucky Mule? It’s similar to the Moscow Mule, but made with bourbon rather than vodka. This simple and delicious drink is a mix of bourbon whiskey, fresh lime juice and ginger beer. For the best flavor, be sure to use ginger beer rather than ginger ale. I used Gosling’s Stormy Ginger Beer to make this drink.

Kentucky Mule Drink Recipe
1 1/2 ounces bourbon whiskey such as Jim Beam or Maker’s Mark
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
4 ounces cold ginger beer
Lime wedge

Fill a glass with ice. Add bourbon and lime juice; top with ginger beer. Garnish with lime.

Makes 1 drink

Drink Ratio: 1 1/2 parts bourbon, 1/2 part lime juice, 4 parts ginger beer

Tip: To make a Big Ginger Drink, use Irish whiskey in place of the bourbon and substitute ginger ale for the ginger beer. Garnish with lemon and lime wedges.
