Irish Coffee is a warm and comforting hot drink. Perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day brunch or anytime you’re craving a sweet and creamy coffee drink.
The best thing about Irish Coffee is the cap of cream topping the drink. There’s no better way to sip coffee than through a cloud of cream.
Irish Coffee Recipe
2 teaspoons sugar such as demerara sugar
1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey such as Jameson
6 to 8 ounces hot brewed coffee
3 tablespoons heavy (whipping) cream
Cocoa powder, if desired
Before making the drink, warm a mug by filling with hot water. Discard hot water and add sugar, Irish whiskey and coffee to mug. Stir to dissolve sugar.
Beat cream with a whisk until thickened but still pourable. (You want thickened cream, not stiff whipped cream.) Layer the cream on top of the coffee drink by slowly pouring the thickened cream over the back of a spoon. Sprinkle with cocoa powder.
Makes 1 drink
Tip: Vary the amount of coffee and cream to suit your taste. Use less coffee for a stronger drink. Increase the cream to 4 tablespoons for a creamier drink.
