Hard apple cider isn’t just for sipping, it makes a great cocktail mixer. Hard cider pairs well with spirits like bourbon, rum and even vodka.

Here’s a recipe for a bourbon and hard cider cocktail called the Kentucky Apple.

Kentucky Apple Cocktail
1 ounce bourbon whiskey such as Jim Beam or Maker’s Mark
1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
Dash Angostura bitters
4 ounces hard apple cider such as Crispin Original or Brut
Fresh apple slice

Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. Add bourbon, maple syrup and bitters. Top with hard apple cider; stir gently. Garnish with a fresh apple slice.

Makes 1 cocktail
